Khaolak Merlin Resort, where the rainforest meets the sea, is a tranquil setting with over 200 natural trees.

Our inland trees also assist in stabilizing the soil, supporting local fauna, and contributing to the region’s biodiversity. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, our trees create a pleasant and calm environment. In the previous issue, we looked at coastal trees; now we’ll look at some of the most extraordinary inland trees and their importance to the environment.

Tree bean

(Parkia timoriana) : Lorises’ Favorite

The tree bean, one of the area’s food sources, feeds both wildlife and humans, especially our exclusive slow loris. Lorises and flying foxes graze on tree blooms at our resort, bringing a magical touch to the evening scene.

Jackfruit

The jackfruit tree produces large, nutritious, and delicious fruit. Jackfruit is a valuable resource for both animals and humans. Its fruit and the sturdy branches support a diverse range of creatures. At Khaolak Merlin Resort, jackfruit is also an essential food source for our slow lorises.

Theptaro, Safrol laurel

Local cultural traditions rely heavily on theptaro trees, which wood was used for incense during Southern Thai vegetarian celebrations. When the wood burns, its rich perfume fills the air with a sense of tranquility and devotion. Furthermore, Theptaro is considered the provincial tree of Phang-Nga province, where the Khaolak Merlin Resort is located.

White Seraya

The White Seraya is one of the tallest trees at Khaolak Merlin Resort, reaching a height of 60 meters. Its towering presence creates a magnificent canopy that protects the area underneath it while also providing critical habitat for a variety of creatures. This gigantic tree not only enhances the resort’s visual appeal, but it also performs an important role in maintaining the area’s ecological balance.

White Champaca

The White Champaca is known for its fragrant blossoms, which not only smell good but also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. This tree plays an important role in the health of the resort’s inland ecology. As a nectar source, it attracts a diverse range of pollinators that are critical to the survival of the surrounding plants. Beyond its ecological role, White Champaca’s flowers are also used as a component in flower garlands or Puang Malai, which Thai people use to pay respect to the Buddha.

Inland Trees: Guardians of Biodiversity

These inland trees are not only beautiful additions to our surroundings; they also play an important role in protecting the resort’s unique ecosystem. Their canopies provide safety and shade for a broad variety of creatures. At Khaolak Merlin Resort, we celebrate the amazing trees that assist to keep our environment healthy. These trees help to preserve the natural beauty of our one-of-a-kind resort by supporting native species, filtering pollutants, and enhancing biodiversity in the inland environment.
