Welcome December: A Joyful Time for Bird Watching at Khaolak Merlin Resort

Written by Monsicha Wangthongchaicharoen

As we welcome December, we embrace the festive season with joy and celebration.

Christmas and New Year are near and people can feel it in the air. This time of the year also brings a sense of renewal as we bid farewell to the monsoon season,

Perfect Conditions for Bird Watching

For nature enthusiasts and bird watchers, this is one of the most exciting times to head outdoors. The cooler, more comfortable morning weather creates an ideal setting for bird watching,

and here at Khaolak Merlin Resort, we are fortunate to host a rich diversity of bird species, offering an unforgettable experience for our guests. Whether you’re an avid birdwatcher or a casual nature lover, the sight and sound of over 100 different bird species calling this area home is truly a gift.

Our birds of the month

Over the past month, we have been treated to the charming presence of the banded woodpecker and the grey-capped pygmy woodpecker. These birds add wonder to the resort’s lush surroundings as they go about their daily routines, tapping on trees and wandering through the forest. This month, we are excited to announce the return of the vernal hanging parrot, whose bright green plumage and acrobatic movements are a delight to behold. Keep your eyes wide open, as these stunning parrots often show themselves in the most unexpected ways, swooping in and out of the tree canopies with graceful ease.

But the excitement does not stop there. If you’re an early riser, you are likely to catch glimpses of some more spectacular species. The white-throated kingfisher, with its striking chestnut brown, blue and white feathers, can often be spotted near the beach. Meanwhile, the chestnut headed bee-eater, known for its colorful plumage and thin black curved bill, is another treat for birdwatchers in the area.

Majestic Raptors in the Skies

The skies above are equally fascinating, with majestic birds such as the Brahminy kite and the white-bellied sea eagle soaring overhead. These magnificent raptors, often seen gliding over us in search of prey, are a true verification of the area’s rich biodiversity.

If you are lucky, you might even spot one resting on the Australian pines near the sea, providing an incredible photo opportunity.

Join Us for an Unforgettable Bird-Watching Experience

With each new day, Khaolak Merlin Resort continues to reveal its natural wonders, offering a serene and marvelous environment for all who visit. So, grab your binoculars, pack your camera, and join us for an unforgettable bird-watching experience starting this December.
